Healthcare on wheels
Welcoming healthcare services to your home
NENO, a mobile healthcare service, got the idea of its name from the sound of an ambulance siren wailing as it typically sounds like this – neno, neno, neno.
As interesting as how the company got its name, the idea of NENO came up with regards to providing healthcare services to everyone in need with the use of innovation and technology.
We reached out to Chief Executive Officer of NENO Malaysia, Nur Farhana Suhaimi, to share more on this new approach of providing healthcare services to the Malaysian community.

Could you share with us what a mobile healthcare service is?
Nur Farhana Suhaimi: Mobile healthcare is defined as a business activity that brings a wide range of certified healthcare services directly to patients’ homes and for those in need via community outreach. This term is used interchangeably with home healthcare which is making its way in healthcare trends these days. Nevertheless, mobile healthcare services have made healthcare delivery more accessible and affordable in recent times.
In other words, if you or someone you know is feeling under the weather, you can easily contact mobile healthcare services to send a health professional directly to your home rather than having to travel to the hospital. Afterall, which place has the best bed or food? It surely isn’t the one from hospitals, instead, it’s at the comfort of your own home.
Well, I believe that having healthcare professionals conduct their services at a patient’s home isn’t a new concept. Truth to be told, generations ago, doctors often travelled to visit their patients. In this era, what makes it different is the element of innovation and technology adapted into delivering healthcare services, especially during the new norms of the Covid19 pandemic.Quotes: Mobile healthcare is defined as business activity that brings a wide range of certified healthcare services directly to patients’ homes and for those in need via community outreach.

How does NENO play a role in this healthcare system?
Farhana: So, our story began when we realised that there are still many Malaysians who do not have access to medical care due to factors such as:
- PovertyÂ
- Living in rural areas
We also identified the elderly and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) among the vulnerable groups and are left behind from getting direct and quality healthcare services due to their physical disabilities.
Therefore, we are playing our part in closing the gaps to healthcare accessibility in Malaysia by providing an innovative collaborative platform which integrates the government, corporate and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) to help out everyone in need.
For a kickstart, NENO has prepared a web-based solution which gathers at least nine initiatives from our strategic partnership with various parties. NENO has also been recognised as a Social Enterprise (Basic) by Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC).
For every transaction, we are allocating 51 percent of our profits for subsidised healthcare services for the poor, promoting the Buy-for-Impact campaign to all of our stakeholders. This way, we are able to support and be a part of our Malaysian government’s initiative and ecosystem to uberise the healthcare industry. At the same time, we are able to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) of the United Nations regarding Good Health and Wellbeing which sets to achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.

What are the types of healthcare services provided by NENO?
Farhana: We offer various healthcare services at home. However, the two main services we initiated and professionally trained includes:
- NENO Medicare or medical care services we conduct basic health screening and send doctors for home visits. We also do wound dressing and medical procedures like ritual circumcision for customers at home.Â
- NENO Buddy, is a homecare service where we help your loved ones in living their daily life, such as:Â
- Helping them with daily personal careÂ
- Preparing meals and making sure the family members consume medicine on time. Â
- We also accompany the elderly, people with disabilities and patients to healthcare centers and even to the nearby recreational park for sightseeing.
To add on, through collaboration with strategic partners, we are able to expand more of mobile healthcare services like blood testing, DNA testing, and therapist service, direct to your doorstep. Additionally, we also initiate a rental program for medical and rehabilitation equipment and we offer flexible monthly payment or rent-to-own schemes to our customers. This way customers could afford to purchase and own the equipment which is considerably costly today.Â
Not forgetting that we also offer our customers with attractive yet affordable takaful packages which cater to every income level for as low as RM57 per month.Â

Currently, where are your services being provided?
Farhana: Our service is currently available in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Putrajaya. Our transportation or delivery service fee is free of charge (FOC) within 10 kilometres. However, after the 10 kilometres, we charge for every next kilometre till we reach the said destination. Â
Apart from that, we’re in the midst of gathering at least 1200 interested service providers and partners who wish to onboard and be a part of the NENO team in delivering the mobile healthcare services throughout every state in Malaysia. With God’s will, we will be launching NENO by the second quarter of 2021.
How does this service help Malaysians?
Farhana: Earlier, I shared the comfort of having a doctor come to your home to treat you. Imagine how convenient that can also be just to have other testing done at home such as blood tests.
By having NENO mobile healthcare services, customers no longer need to drive, pay for petrol and tolls, find parking or even wait in for long hours just to meet their healthcare professionals.
To add on, NENO also provides job opportunities to fresh graduates and youth regardless of their background, medical or non-medical and status of physical disabilities. We welcome the participation of Persons with Disability (PWD) in our NENO in order to be inclusive to everyone. Once they have registered themselves as a NENO team, they will have to go through onboarding training and we will provide continuous professional development training and knowledge sharing from time to time.

What happens if there’s AN EMERGENCY?
Farhana: In the case of an emergency, NENO’s team is trained with Advanced First Aid (AFA) to respond competently by providing Basic Life Support (BLS) at home or during the delivery of healthcare services. However, at the moment, NENO has no ambulance services and therefore, has prepared our team with emergency contact within the nearby hospitals. As a newly formed service, we wish to incorporate the ambulance services in the near future and would like to invite any interested parties for strategic partnership with us.
How are the safety of the patients taken into account during this pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO)?
Farhana: As a healthcare industry, we adhere to every guideline published by the World Health Organization (WHO), Malaysia Ministry of Health and National Security Council.
Additionally, we also established our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in which this SOP is applicable and protects both our NENO Team as well as the patients.Â
