With digitalisation, the print industry has been diminishing over the years but 1Twenty80 has chosen to stay true to its roots.
1Twenty80 published its first issue in 2016, delivering evidence-based health information to readers through the pages of its magazine. The magazine was distributed to subscribers, independent pharmacies, private hospitals and coffee houses.
Fast forward to 2021, 1Twenty80 remains as a print magazine but have expanded to accommodate the digitalised lifestyle of readers. Today, 1Twenty80 reaches out to readers via social media, its website, e-magazine and newsletters too.
Much has changed since the conception of the magazine. From adapting to the ever-changing readership trends to keeping our heads above the water during the pandemic, for the first time in five years, we reveal the individuals behind the pages of 1Twenty80!

The most memorable 1Twenty80 milestone is 1Twenty80 has reached 5 years this year. Many print magazines have closed down or downsized but for 1Twenty80, we are still growing. We are planning to bring 1Twenty80 to India, Indonesia and Philippine in the next three to five years.
Which is your favourite 1Twenty80 issue?
My favourite 1Twenty80 issue is the yellow cover with the banana (February, 2019), this is the one issue that I can remember well because our theme was on sex education and the team came out with this concept. I am very impressed with the design and concept from the team.
Through the pages of 1Twenty80 for the past 5 years, what is one health tip or information that you remember till today?
Until today, I still remember the first few pharmacists interviewed by us, like Encik Farik from Reefa pharmacy and Mr. Kevin from Unipharm Pharmacy. Thanks to them, we’re able to connect with more pharmacists and doctors to share more health tips to our readers.
Did you know that 120/80 was the ideal blood pressure reading prior to joining the magazine?
Yes, I do know that the magazine’s name is the ideal of blood pressure because I am the one who suggested this idea with my business coach – Joe P.
Lastly, what’s one healthy habit that you diligently practice and would like to share with others?
I consume health supplements such as fish oil, Q10 and antioxidants everyday because I know I will not get the full nutrition that my body needs from my daily meals.

I see health as a gift to be treasured at all times. Health is reflected in every area of our life such as the way we manage our thoughts and emotions, our diet choices, lifestyle decisions and so on.
In your eyes, what’s the best part about working with the 1Twenty80 team?
To me, it’s the connection that we have between our team members. My colleagues have taught me that it’s crucial to connect well with one another. This translates to good communication between team members, hearing each other out and being able to work well in a team.
What is health to you?
I see health as a gift to be treasured at all times. Health is reflected in every area of our life such as the way we manage our thoughts and emotions, our diet choices, lifestyle decisions and so on. Our health should not be thought about only when we’ve been diagnosed with a disease. It should be thought and cared about every single day because truly, health is the greatest wealth.
What is your most memorable 1Twenty80 milestone?
Our greatest milestone to-date is that we’ve turned five! We started solely as a magazine available only on print and now, we’re present on digital platforms, we’ve an e-magazine and many exciting plans ahead. It’s amazing how things can change for the better in just five years.
Which is your favourite 1Twenty80 issue?
There are so many and I honestly can’t narrow down to picking just one cover. Though, I’ve to say that our December issues always make me feel a sense of festivity, warmth and joy. Especially last year’s December issue with the title, ‘2020 The Year We Stayed Home’ is definitely one to remember during our lifetime. Despite the pandemic, our team managed to successfully pull through to deliver a festive and informative issue for our readers to enjoy.
Through the pages of 1Twenty80 for the past 5 years, what is one health tip or information that you remember till today?
It has to be – to always listen to your body. We are most in-tune with our body and only we will know if our body needs medical help and so on. We sometimes disregard the signs that our body show due to fear of the truth but sweeping things under the carpet does not make things any better. This tip has definitely made me more careful when it comes to making lifestyle decisions.
Did you know that 120/80 was the ideal blood pressure reading prior to joining the magazine?
To be honest, no! When the bosses told me that this was the magazine title that they picked, I was so puzzled at first but after understanding the meaning behind the name, it made so much sense.
Lastly, what’s one healthy habit that you diligently practice and would like to share with others?
Eat your calories and not drink it. I believe in making informed lifestyle choices and we should also be careful with hidden sugars. It’s easy to go overboard with our sugar consumption, especially with all the tempting sugar-laden drinks available such as brown sugar boba tea, milkshakes, ice-blended drinks and so on. So, my tip is to save the calorie allocation for your food instead of drinks.

Build healthy eating habits and drink sufficient water! Pre-plan your meals and cook them yourself. This is a healthier option as you have more control over the ingredients in your meals.
In your eyes, what’s the best part about working with the 1Twenty80 team?
It is the ability to communicate our ideas clearly and respecting the views of one another. We have different strengths and skills and we share our abilities with the team to achieve more effective solutions and better outcomes.
Working with the team allows me to look at things from an entirely new perspective. We go through discussions that give me a chance to get a new perspective to analyse various situations. Teamwork simply makes me more open to different things and I get new ideas and learn new things from other members of the team.
What is health to you?
Being mentally and physically fit. To be mentally healthy, I maintain a good mood and have positive thoughts, take care of my soul and learn to love myself. To be physically healthy, I keep a balanced diet, exercise regularly and make sure to sleep for seven to eight hours at night so that I will be awake with lots of energy during the day. Also, I believe that work-life balance is important in achieving a healthy lifestyle too!
What is your most memorable 1Twenty80 milestone?
Of course it has to be celebrating our 5th year anniversary this year. It is not an easy 5 years, from doing only print magazine and now we are on digital platforms. I am glad to see that our efforts have paid off and 1Twenty80 is still growing stronger and better.
Which is your favourite 1Twenty80 issue?
My favourite issue is always the December issue! It is the conclusion of my hard work for the year and also it always has the most colourful layouts since it’s the Christmas session.
The December issue always makes me feel excited as I look forward to a brand new year.
Through the pages of 1Twenty80 for the past 5 years, what is one health tip or information that you remember till today?
Instead of one tip or information, I would say it is the April 2019 issue (Issue 33), which is about achieving work-life balance and a healthy diet. This is how I started to practice work-life balance and healthy eating habits. I used to eat a lot of instant foods, fast foods and even skipped meals when I’m caught up with time and rushing to meet deadlines, especially during my university days. It was only then, I started learning to eat healthier food and until today, I still practice these good habits of eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and drinking the right amount of water to achieve healthy eating habits. I also spend more time with my family, sharing our favourite hobbies, sports, movies and activities.
Did you know that 120/80 was the ideal blood pressure reading prior to joining the magazine?
To tell you the truth, no. I was not a very health-conscious individual prior to joining the team.
Lastly, what’s one healthy habit that you diligently practice and would like to share with others?
Build healthy eating habits and drink sufficient water! Pre-plan your meals and cook them yourself. This is a healthier option as you have more control over the ingredients in your meals.

I am truly looking forward to more celebrations with 1Twenty80.
